Kidnapped and Killed
Alexander, 46, was killed along with his 15-year-old daughter in Jakarta, Indonesia, during a period of serious violence in the country. Both father and daughter disappeared in March 2002, most likely kidnapped by Islamic extremists. Their bodies were recovered several days after they were taken. One reason put forward for their deaths was that extremists wanted to derail the peace negotiations between Muslims and Christians that sought to end the communal violence.
