Anyone who resolves to do the will of God will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own. John 7:17
Pierre Chanel (1841)
Lasting Legacy
Frenchman Pierre went to the Pacific in 1836 and was killed on Futuna Island three years after his arrival, becoming the first martyr of Oceania. He had gone there with two others, and they were initially well received. But when the local ruler Niuliki’s son became a Christian and was baptised, the chief became angry with Pierre. Furthermore, the missionary’s good standing and evident popularity scared Niuliki. Soon after the baptism, Pierre was clubbed to death in April 1841 by Niuliki’s warriors. Within five months of his death the entire island had become Christian.
All our difficulties are only platforms for the manifestation of His grace, power and love.
Hudson Taylor (1832-1905)
For all the saints, who from their labours rest,
Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might,
Thou Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight;
Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
William W How (1823-1897)
