The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5
Shamoun Babar and Daniel Emanuel (2005)
Shot and Dumped
Pastor Babar and the driver of his car, Daniel, were kidnapped on 5 April 2005 by extremists in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan’s most strictly Islamic region. Two days later their bodies were found dumped on a road near Mulazai village in Nasirbagh. The evidence of the recovered corpses of the two men, who were both in their 30s, showed they had been badly tortured and shot several times.
Pastor Babar was committed to his church work and organised many activities for his congregation and the local community, despite threats. He was also a well-known evangelist in Peshawar. His life was targeted because of his love and enthusiasm for Christ and the Gospel. The murders left the whole Christian community of Pakistan shocked and saddened.
We pray, Lord, for the nation of Pakistan. We thank you for the presence of the Christian community in that land. Bless those that have been made to suffer for your Name’s sake. We pray for wisdom in government and a spirit of friendship between people of different religions. May your Gospel be proclaimed with freedom and the land become a blessing to the world. We ask this in your Name. Amen.
