If our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God.
1 John 3:21
Antoninus (4th century)
Spurned Financial Gain
Antoninus was a stonemason in Anbazus, Syria, in the fourth century and, despite the fact that the pagan practice of worshipping stone idols would have been financially advantageous to someone in his trade, he admonished those who followed this practice.
After a two year period when he retired to live as a hermit, Antoninus was driven to return to his village and destroy its pagan idols. He was chased away and fled to Apamea, Syria, where the bishop asked him to build a church, which he did. This prompted a riot by the pagan population in which Antoninus was killed.
God be in my head
and in my understanding;
God be in my eyes,
and in my looking;
God be in my mouth,
and in my speaking;
God be in my heart,
and in my thinking;
God be at my end,
and at my departing.
