Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life. Luke 21:17-19
Shamimu Muteteri Hassan (2007)
A Defiant Daughter
When Ugandan 16-year-old Shamimu Muteteri Hassan converted from Islam to Christianity in 2007, her radical Muslim father was enraged. He was famous in his village for his extremism, and he tried to make Shamimu deny Christ, threatening his daughter with death if she refused.
The church began making plans to help her escape the family home, but before the plans were complete her father attacked and killed her with a large hammer on 1 July, two months after her conversion. He burned the body with paraffin and buried it. Police arrested him, but were later bribed by wealthy Muslims to set him free. Shamimu’s grieving fiancé Ivan, a pastor’s son who had led her to Christ, was also arrested and held by the police for a few days.
There is no safety – human safety, worldly safety – apart from the true safety I found with the Lord Jesus Christ.
