True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin. Malachi 2:6
Dennis of Paris (c. 250)
Powerful Preacher
When Dennis, who was bishop in Paris, went to Gaul in 250 as a missionary, he preached so powerfully and so many were converted as a result that he was arrested on the orders of the Roman governor Fescenninus Sisinnius.
He was imprisoned for a lengthy period and then beheaded at Montmartre, or “Martyrs Hill”, in Paris. A priest, Rusticus, and a deacon, Eleutherius, are believed to have been executed with him.
Lord God of truth and love, “thy kingdom come”, we pray
Give us thy grace to know thy truth and walk thy way:
That here on earth thy will be done
‘Till saints in earth and heaven are one.
Howard Charles Adie Gaunt (1902-1983)
O God our heavenly father, who hast manifested thy love towards mankind in sending thine only Son into the world, that all might live through him: We pray thee to speed forth these good tidings of great joy to every nation, that the people who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death may see the great light, and may come, with us, to worship him whose name is called Wonderful, even our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
