No-one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11
Magdi Ayad Moussad (2000)
“Over his dead body”
Magdi, an Egyptian Christian, was shot dead and five others injured in July 2000 over a dispute about the construction of a much-needed church building in the village of Sool.
Magdi had bought the land in 1990 and the work was completed in April 2000, despite objections from some of the Muslims in the village. Although the security services had persuaded representatives of Muslim families to sign a document approving of the church building, both Magdi and the church minister had received threats prior to the shooting and one Islamic extremist, suspected of involvement in the incident, was known to have said that the church would be built “over his [Magdi’s] dead body”.
At the time of the shooting there were five mosques for Sool’s 25,000 Muslims while this was the only church building for the village’s 6,000 Christians.
Christ is made the sure foundation,
Christ the head and cornerstone,
chosen of the Lord, and precious,
binding all the Church in one;
holy Zion’s help for ever,
and her confidence alone.
