“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. Isaiah 55:8
Egyptian Christians (1992)
Under Siege
On 4 May 1992 in the village of Manshyet El-Nasr, Dairout, Assiut, gangs of radical Muslims attacked and murdered twelve Egyptian Christians. Some attackers sat in wait for ten farmers to begin working in their fields before opening fire on them. Another group killed a teacher after bursting into a primary school, while a doctor who was coming out of his home on his way to work was shot by a different gang. Five other people were wounded. One of them, a child, suffered gunshot wounds and died of his injuries a day later.
Egyptian Christians face much discrimination in daily life and in recent years have been increasingly facing physical violence directed against themselves and their property.
Be mindful, O God, of all who stand in need of Thy great tenderness of heart, whether friend or foe or stranger; for Thou are the help for the helpless, the Saviour of the tempest tossed, the haven of those that sail, and the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
