Wide is the gate and broad is the road that lead to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that lead to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13b-14
Hemanta Das (2007)
Hindu Convert
Before he converted to Christianity, Hemanta, from Assam in India, was a member of a Hindu extremist group called Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). After his conversion he became very active in evangelism, which angered the radical Hindu groups who often carried out violent attacks against Christians.
Hemanta was threatened on several occasions that there would be dire consequences if he tried to convert people to Christianity, but he was undeterred. On 28 June 2007 he was beaten so severely in Guwahati, Assam, that he died of his injuries three days later in hospital. The attack was believed to have been the work of Hindu extremists. Hemanta was hailed as the first Assamese martyr by the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India.
Send out your light and your truth, that I may live always near to you, my God. Let me feel your love, that I may be as it were already in heaven, that I may do my work as the angels do theirs; and let me be ready for every work, ready to go out or go in, to stay or depart, just as you direct. Lord, let me have no will of my own, or consider my true happiness as depending in the smallest degree on anything that happens to me outwardly, but as consisting totally in conformity to your will.
Henry Martyn (1781-1812)
